TREE Foundation Executive Director and Mission Green founder Meg Lowman gave a virtual keynote talk during the 8th International Canopy Conference held October 15-19, 2023, in Xishuangbanna, China. Meg’s talk was delivered during the Canopy Education sessions of the conference, and was focused on using Mission Green’s canopy walkway model to conserve forests and empower women.
Also presenting during the canopy education sessions were TREE Foundation Director of Education Pamela Montero Alvarez, who spoke about canopies in the Amazon, and Allen Tan, who spoke about canopies in Malaysia.
The theme of the conference was “The (Forest) Canopy as an Integral Part of Conservation and Biogeography.” The conference was held at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Yunnan Province, in China.
The conference is held every four years and aims to showcase the latest advances in the field of canopy science and to promote future research directions in canopy ecology and other related disciplines.
Steven Pearce, award-winning photographer, filmmaker, and creative director for The Tree Projects, chaired the canopy education sessions on behalf of Meg who was originally selected to chair but was unable to attend in person.
